FCT: Wike set to issue ban on Keke Napep

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has stated that his administration intends to halt the operation of tricycles, popularly known as Keke Napep in various districts of Abuja.
The Minister also pledged that the menace of one-chance would soon be eradicated in Nigeria’s capital, stating that Keke Napep will cease operations in Asokoro and Maitama.
According to Wike, the FCDA will be implementing buses and tariffs very soon to address the issue of transportation and one-chance illegal activities in the FCT.
“These buses and taxis will ply all the routes in Asokoro and Maitama. We are kicking out Keke Napep at least in these areas. Some of these Keke Napep are agents of criminals,” Wike said.
The former Governor of Rivers State added that “if we have the buses, people will prefer to come from their areas and come to work and go back”.
The minister, who was addressing Estate Developers and Residents’ Associations in the Federal Capital Territory called on the residents to cooperate with the FCDA by paying their taxes.
“It is painful but it’s an inconvenience that we must face,” Wike added.
