Ondo: State Assembly convene, may declare Aiyedatiwa acting gov
Today, the Ondo State House of Assembly will convene in plenary session to review the state’s political condition.
It was reliably gathered that the lawmakers would discuss the issue of the state’s executive arm, as the lawmakers may declare the deputy governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as acting governor, following the governor’s inability to resume office due to illness.
The governor is still recovering at his private residence in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
According to one source, some of the lawmakers may not be present at today’s session due to disagreements about Aiyedatiwa. He also stated that today’s meeting received the approval of the All Progressives Congress National Secretariat.
“The lawmakers are ready to meet today (Friday),” according to the source. One of the items on the agenda for the meeting is the appointment of Lucky Aiyedatiwa as interim governor. Though some MPs may not attend today’s meeting because they oppose Aiyedatiwa being interim governor, the APC’s national leadership is aware of and has sanctioned the meeting. As a result, they may appoint Aiyedatiwa as interim governor today.”
When contacted, Mr Olatunji Oshati, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, verified the occurrence but could not confirm whether Aiyedatiwa will be declared interim governor or not.
“What I can tell you for now is that there is something like that, not to declare him (Aiyedatiwa), but the House is going to sit on the matter and review the political situation today as directed by our national leaders,” the Assembly spokesperson said. I don’t want to predict what the conclusion of the meeting will be because the House has likely (made the declaration). If it is likely to happen, you are also invited.”
Meanwhile, it was reported that President Bola Tinubu would meet with members of the National Assembly today in Abuja to discuss the continuing situation.
