AFCON: Super Eagles defeat South Africa (4-2 on penalties), book ticket for final

Nigeria will play in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final.

The Super Eagles needed penalties to defeat South Africa in their semi-final match on Wednesday.

The game concluded 1-1 in regulation and after 120 minutes.

There were no goals in the first half, which was dominated by Bafana Bafana.

However, in the second half, Nigeria seized the lead after Victor Osimhen was fouled inside the box.

William Troost-Ekong scored to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

However, late in the game, Alhassan Yusuf conceded a penalty, which Teboho Mokoena converted.

The match was ultimately settled on penalties, which Jose Peseiro’s team won 4-2.

They will now meet either the host, Ivory Coast, or the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the final on Sunday.
