Background

Aloysius Uche is an Economist from the Nigerian Igbo tribe. He studied at the University College, Cardiff, Wales, U.K where he got a degree in Economics and Law and thereafter a Master’s degree in Quantitative Economics.

He also holds a Ph.D. in economics from Sussex University. He also obtained a certificate in Corporate Finance Leadership from the prestigious Harvard Business School in July 2000.

His research interests include trade policy, regional economic integration, governance, public health economics, and infrastructure financing.

He has also documented several commentaries on African affairs through AGI’s Africa in Focus and through the Nairobi-based East African newspaper.

Career

Aloysius Uche began his career as an Economist at The Economist Intelligence Unit (The EIU) in 1983 where he worked until joining Midland Bank Ltd as an International Economist.

He later moved to the World Bank as a Manager from 1988 to 2007 followed by the African Development Bank Group as Vice President from 2007 to 2011.

Between 2011 and 2014, he was a Director at the world Bank and in 2015, he was made the Managing Partner of Omapu Associates LLC, where he worked until 2020.

He was subsequently named as a senior fellow and director of the Africa Growth Initiative in the Global Economy and Development program at Brookings.

In February 2024, Aloysius Uche was named among the Central Bank of Nigeria Monetary Policy Committee.

Personal life

Ordu is a member of the board of directors of the Partnership for Transparency Fund, he has served as a senior consultant to the World Meteorological Organization, the United Nations Environment Program, the African Development Bank, and the World Bank.

He is a Christian and he is married with children.
