Background

Wale Ojo was born in London, England on the 9th September 1968, he originally hails from Oyo State in the Southwestern part of Nigeria.

He studied at the University of Hull, England where he bagged his academic qualification.

Career

He rose to fame as a child star, mostly in drama series and soap operas on WNTV IBADAN, Africa’s first television network.

At age 8, he began working with Akin Lewis when he portrayed a barber in the NTA Ibadan television series “Why Worry”  in the 1980s.

At age 12, he moved with his family to England, where he also attended university.

He played a very young OTHELLO in the east end of London in 1986, marking the start of his acting career in the United Kingdom.

He is popularly known for his comedy series MEET THE ADEBANJOS (2012-2014) which earned him a nomination for BEST COMEDY ACTOR at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards in 2018 and and his debut movie which gained him huge popularity in Nigeria is the film PHONE SWAP for which he won the award for BEST ACTOR at the Nigeria Lite Entertainment Awards

Ojo attributes his success to playwright Wole Soyinka, Zulu Sofola, Chief Wale Ogunyemi, Tunji Oyelana, and his mother, an actress who encouraged him in his career.

Ojo founded New Nigeria Cinema in an effort to improve the caliber of Nigerian films.

In London’s British Film Institute in 2010, New Nigeria Cinema presented a film and held several talk shows.
