Napoli President confirms high release clause for Osimhen
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has strongly hinted that Victor Osimhen could be sold this summer.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria striker recently signed a contract extension with Napoli following protracted discussions, but there were speculations that a release clause worth roughly €130 million was inserted.
De Laurentiis disclosed the release clause for the first time today, but did not specify how much was involved.
“I can confirm there is a release clause for Osimhen, a very high one,” De Laurentiis said today during a Financial Times event in London.
The outspoken Napoli chief also admitted that stopping Osimhen from leaving for a big European club could be ‘difficult’.
“Some players stay for many years, others are wanted by PSG, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea,” he noted.
“It’s difficult to keep players when they are wanted by rich clubs.”
Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in September 2020 for around €80m and has grown to become one of the best strikers in the world at the club, emerging as the top scorer in Serie A with 26 goals last season as Napoli won their first Scudetto in 33 years.
