Abia Police Commissioner visits ABN station, issue apology over officer’s conduct

In order to evaluate the station, Abia State Police Commissioner Mr. Kenechukwu Onwuemelie paid a visit to All Breaking News (ABN) headquarters on Azikiwe Road in Umuahia.

Remember that on Tuesday, a few police officers broke into the station’s live studio in order to apprehend a man?

Nonetheless, the Abia CP apologized for the actions of his officers during his visit to the ABN headquarters with a few senior police officers. He also mentioned that the issue was settled peacefully between the two organizations following a conversation between the CP and the ABN Director.

According to a press release issued on behalf of the CP and signed by Maureen Chinaka, PPRO of the Abia Command, early inquiries into the event revealed that the arresting police personnel acted in an unprofessional manner.

The statement read in part,

“This is because, while there is no law prohibiting a police officer from making an arrest in a studio, the facts surrounding the particular case being investigated by the police officers do not warrant such actions.

“The Commissioner of Police Abia State Command visited ABN TV/Radio on 17/1/24, where he conducted an on-the-spot assessment. He had discussions with the Director of ABN TV/Radio and apologized for the conduct of the officers. The matter was resolved amicably.

“However, the officers have defaulted and their orderly room trial commences today 18/1/2023. If found guilty they will be disciplined accordingly.

”The Abia State Police Command is committed to maintaining a professionally competent, service-driven, rule-of-law compliant, and people-friendly Police Force, in line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Ebetokun, PhD NPM,” the release said.
