AFCON 2025: Morocco gets hosting rights
Morocco has been selected as the host nation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), according to Confederation of African Football (Caf) President Patrice Motsepe.
Algeria will host the tournament for the second time; the first time was in 1988.
Algeria is the only bidder for 2025 after the withdrawal of the other three finalists, Zambia, Benin/Nigeria, and Algeria.
As part of a joint bid in 2030, Morocco will have a higher chance of hosting the World Cup if it hosts the Afcon.
Afcon 2027 has been accepted as a joint proposal from Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
For the first time since 1976, when Ethiopia served as the host, it moves the premier men’s football competition in Africa to East Africa.
The following edition, Afcon 2023, will take place in Ivory Coast and begin on January 13, 2024.
