AFCON: Cote d’Ivoire govt declares national holiday ahead of Nigerian clash

All Ivorian schools will be closed on Thursday, January 18, according to a government declaration.

The group has a connection to the holiday. Thursday’s second game between the host country and the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the ongoing 2023 TotalEnergies CAF African Cup of Nations competition took place at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan.

This is because the government wants the francophone nation’s residents to be fully prepared for the game and to support the Ivory Coast’s Elephants in every way possible.

He confirmed the government’s order in a conversation with a Cote d’Ivoire-based source.

“Yes. All public sectors included. Half working day for banks only,” the source told PUNCH Online.
