AFCON: Victor Boniface injured, flies back to Germany

Victor Boniface, a crucial player for the Super Eagles, will miss the African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, which begins on January 16, due to a groin injury.

The setback led him to miss a recent test against Al Gharbia, as well as the subsequent defeat against Guinea’s Syli Nationale.

Following a scan, Boniface is anticipated to be out for six weeks. He will return to Germany for treatment of the groin injury. Despite his regret, the 23-year-old has sent his best wishes for his colleagues’ success in the competition, indicating his acceptance of the situation.

“Good luck, guys…” “Wishing you all the best at Afcon,” he wrote on Instagram on Monday.

Following Victor Boniface’s terrible injury, it is expected that the Nigeria Football Federation will shortly identify his successor for the forthcoming African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire. The former Saint Union Gelloise forward’s absence is a blow to the Super Eagles, especially given his budding relationship with Napoli star Victor Osimhen. Boniface has made a huge impression at Bay Arena, scoring ten goals and assisting seven times.

This setback adds to the issues faced by the Nigerian team, which is already missing midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, who withdrew from the competition due to a muscle injury that would keep him out for three months. Ndidi has been replaced by Royal Antwerp’s Alhassan Yusuf, as the team seeks its fourth African Cup of Nations crown.
