Early life
Ahmed Aliyu hails from Tudun wada in Sokoto State, Nigeria. He was born on 1st January, 1970.
Education
He attended Magajin Rafi Model Primary School from 1977 to 1983 and then Government Secondary School, Yabo, from 1983 to 1989, from where he obtained his West African School Certificate.
Ahmed enrolled in the College of Administration at the Polytechnic of Sokoto State.
He earned a Clerical Officers Certificate in Accounts and Audit in 1991.
He also obtained a Certificate in Accounts and Audit from the same institution from 1991 and 1992 and a Professional Diploma in Public Accounts and Audit in 1994.
Out of his zeal to gain more knowledge, Aliyu Ahmad earned a Higher National Diploma in Local Government Studies between 1995 to 1997.
In 2000, he was admitted to Usman Danfodiyo University in Sokoto and obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Management and afterwards a Master’s degree in Business administration in 2003.
He also has a PhD in Business administration from Nasarawa State University.
Career
Prior to his foray into politics, Aliyu was an auditor, a cashier and accountant.
He was deputy director of Finance and Supply, Sabon-Birni Local Government, 1996 to 1998.
Director of Finance and Supply, Kebbe Local Chief Accountant Local Government Service Commission, 2004 to 2007.
Political Career
He served twice as a Commissioner and the first Executive Secretary of Police Trust Fund (PTF).
He was appointed Commissioner for the Ministry of Social Welfare and culture of Sokoto state.
He has served as a Deputy Governor of Sokoto state in 2015, in 2018, he resigned from this position and contested as Governor of Sokoto state in the All Progressives Congress platform.
He emerged victorious in the polls and was sworn in as Governor of the state on 29th May, 2023.
