UCL: Arsenal beats Sevilla 2-1, tops Group B
Gabriel Jesus scored and assisted to help Arsenal return to winning ways in the Champions League with a win over Sevilla.
The Gunners came through a stiff test against the seven-time Europa League winners after losing 2-1 to Lens in their previous European appearance.
Gabriel Martinelli got the visitors off to a good start with a goal in first-half stoppage time, racing onto Jesus’ excellent ball and rounding the goalie.
With a stunning strike into the top corner early in the second half, Jesus extended Arsenal’s lead.
Sevilla, cheered on by a raucous home crowd, re-entered the game when Nemanja Gudelj headed in from a set piece.
Arsenal had to resist some pressure from the hosts as they attempted to equalize, and David Raya tipped Mariano’s shot into the crossbar, though it may not have counted due to a probable handball.
Mikel Arteta’s team then suffered a late blow when Jesus left with a suspected hamstring injury, but they held firm to win a victory that lifts them to the top of Group B.
