Banditry: Embrace dialogue – group tells Tinubu, backs Yerima’s opinion

A group of the All Progressives Congress has endorsed Senator Ahmed Yerima’s suggestion that President Bola Tinubu use dialogue to deal with terrorists and bandits.

Yerima is the former governor of Zamfara State.

Abdul Shuaibu, the national coordinator of the Progressive League of Youth Voters, made the statement on Thursday in Abuja during the patrons’ investiture ceremony.

“Former President Muhammadu Buhari has done his best in the fight against banditry and terrorism. But it has not yielded any positive results.

“This is why I think it is necessary for us to try another option. So we urge President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to please sit down and see if dialogue can be adopted for peace to reign in Nigeria,” Shuaibu said.

Three days ago before Shuaibu’s statement, Yerima faced criticism for recommending the Federal Government to pardon the bandits terrorizing the states in the North-West zone.

Yerima encouraged Tinubu to deal with “repentant” bandits and consider offering them amnesty in the same way that late President Umaru Yar’Adua did for the Niger Delta insurgents, according to Platinum Times, who claimed that Yerima visited the president on Monday in Abuja.

The former deputy senate minority leader revealed it to reporters at the State House shortly after his visit.
