Bayern tarminates controversial Partnership With Qatar Airways

Bayern Munich said on Wednesday that they had opted not to continue their sponsorship relationship with Qatar Airways, which had long been contentious due to worries about the country’s human rights record.
Both parties announced that their five-year cooperation would come to an end on June 30 “by mutual agreement” in a joint statement.
The statement read, “The ties that FC Bayern has been able to establish with its supporters in the Arab world through Qatar Airways will remain.”
Jan-Christian Dreesen, the new CEO of Bayern, claimed that Qatar Airways and the squad “have worked together successfully and learned from each other.”
Bayern received “all the best for the future,” said Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker.
“FC Bayern is a great football club whose games we have followed with joy and passion,” he continued.
The largest club in Germany has long been criticized for its associations with Doha and the state-owned airline in connection with alleged violations of human rights, particularly in the run-up to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Members booed and chanted during the general assembly of the club in 2021, demanding that the club’s ties to the Gulf State be severed.
The German national team reneged on a pledge to wear a “One Love” armband in support of human rights and diversity during last year’s World Cup, blaming the decision on concerns of on-field sanctions from FIFA.
The German team stood for the pre-game photo before the tournament’s opening game while holding their lips closed, signaling that the sport’s regulating body had silenced them.
Germany was ousted at the group stage of the World Cup for the second time in a row, but the team denied being preoccupied with off-field issues.
