Bello Muhammad Matawalle is a Nigerian politician and teacher by profession. He was the former governor of Zamfara State.

Biography
Bello Muhammad was born 12th February 1969, in Maradun, Zamfara State.
He schooled at Maradun Township Primary School and had his First School Leaving certificate in 1979, he proceeded to Yaba College of Technology, Lagos and Thames Valley University,London.
Family
Being a Muslim, Bello Matawalle has a polygamous family made of four wives and many children. The names of his wives are; Hajiya Aisha Bello, Hajiya Fatima, Hajiya Balkisu, Hajiya Dadiya.
Career
Before his involvement in politics, he worked as a teacher at Government Girls College Moriki and Kwatarkoshi before joining the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.
Political career
Matawalle ventured into politics in 1998 when he ran for a house of assembly seat and won under the platform of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP).
Between 1999 and 2003 he served as Zamfara State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Commissioner for Environment, Rural Development and then Commissioner for Youth and Sports.
In May 2003, Matawalle was elected into the House of Representatives by his constituents Bakura/Maradun in May 2003 on the platform of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).
In 2007 he was re-elected still on the platform of the ANPP but he later defected to PDP where he was re-elected for a third term in 2011.
In 2019, he contested as governor of Zamfara state but lost to his opponent, Muktar Idris of the All Progressive Congress(APC). This result was contested in court by Matawalle. The court finally withdrew the certificate of return that was issued to Mr Idris and re-issued it to Matawalle.
APC lost it finally on heading to the Supreme Court as the court pronounced that the votes cast for the APC in the election as wasted and ordered that the candidate with the second-highest votes be sworn as a result of APC’s inability to conduct a primary election for all the candidates in Zamfara State.
In June 2019, Matawalle defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC) alongside other paty members and was appointed as Zamfara APC leader.
