Benjamin Mendy returns to football, joins Ligue 1 side Lorient

Benjamin Mendy, a former defender for Manchester City, has agreed to a two-year contract with Lorient of Ligue 1.

At Chester Crown Court on Friday, a jury found Mendy not guilty of rape and attempted rape. The player was found not guilty earlier this year of sexual offenses against a number of women, but the jury was deadlocked on the two accusations, leading to a retrial.

Mendy, 29, became the most expensive defender in the Premier League when City paid Monaco £52 million for him in 2017.

He participated in France’s World Cup-winning squad in 2018 and won three titles with City.

After his contract with City expired at the end of June, Mendy was let go; he last appeared for the team in August 2021.
