Background
Agboola Ajayi is of the Yoruba tribe, born on September 24th, 1968 to Chief Newton Ajayi and Mrs Rebecca Ogunjinte (née Olubusade) of Kiribo Town in Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
He completed his elementary and secondary education at Community High School in Kiribo Town and Methodist High School in Okitipupa LGA respectively.
He further went to the Igbinedion University in Okada, Edo State where he and graduated with Bachelor of Law (LL.B) at 2nd Class Upper division.
He was called to bar in 2010 upon his graduation from the Nigerian Law School in Abuja.
Career
Ajayi entered politics as a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and thereafter he was made the chairman in Old Opoi Ward 1 from 1988 to 1998.
He moved to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 1998 and was made the Secretary of the party in Ilaje/Ese Odo LGA between 1998 and 1999 when he was named as the Supervisor for Agriculture for Ese-Odo LGA from 1999 to 2001.
This position was followed up by an appointment as Supervisor for Works and Transport for Ese-Odo LGA from 2001 to 2003 when he became the Caretaker Chairman of Ese Odo LGA and eventually the chairman of Ese-Odo LGA between 2004 and 2007.
Ajayi was also a former member of the Federal House of Representatives for Ilaje/Ese Odo federal constituency on the People’s Democratic Party platform.
During his time in the House, he served as the chairman House Committee on NDDC from 2007 to 2010.
Ajayi later switched to the All Progressives Congress and became the running mate of Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) in the Ondo State Governorship election in November 2016 and emerged victorious.
He later defected to the Zenith Labour Party where he was the 2020 gubernatorial candidate of Ondo state.
On 25th April, 2024, he was declared as the flagbearer of the People’s Democratic Party ahead of the November governorship elections in Ondo State.

Agboola Ajayi is happily married to Chief Ajewole Agboola Ajayi JP and they have children together.
Controversies
Ajayi has been involved in acts which spark criticisms from the public and fellow partisans.
He was accused of having lied to gain admission into the Nigerian Law School while he was still in a full-time employment with the Nigerian government in 2019.
He also had a disagreement with his former Boss, Rotimi Akeredolu in 2020 and this led to his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
