BREAKING: Supreme Court affirms Oborevwori’s election as Delta Gov
On Friday, the Supreme Court dismissed all three cases seeking to overturn Sheriff Oborevwori’s election as Delta Governor.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has proclaimed Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the winner of the March 18 governorship election.
But unsatisfied, the three parties went to court. While Oborevwori was successful in the tribunal and the appeals court, the parties took the case to the Supreme Court.
When the issue reached the Supreme Court, it confirmed the earlier rulings and Oborevwori’s victory in the Delta governorship. The court initially dismissed Ovie Omo-Agege’s plea to overturn Governor Oborevwori’s election.
The Supreme Court ruled that the appellant was unable to sustain his claim of overvoting and disobedience with electoral laws.
It also dismissed other appeals for lack of merit and confirmed PDP Governor Oborevwori’s victory. The court awards no costs, and the decision is unanimous.
In a similar event, the Supreme Court dismissed Mister Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s challenge challenging Governor Dabo Abiodun’s election in Ogun State.
Adebutu’s appeal alleges that Governor Abiodun’s election did not follow electoral laws and did not result in a lawful majority of votes. As a result, he requested that his triumph be declared null and void.
However, on Friday, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal for lack of merit, upholding Governor Abiodun’s electoral victory.
