BREAKING: Suspended EFCC chair, Bawa in DSS custody

The Department of State Services (DSS) is now holding Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chairman who has been placed on suspension.

According to information, Bawa arrived at the DSS headquarters at around 9:02 p.m.

He is reportedly currently being interrogated by secret police agents, according to a source.

After allegations of abuse of office were made against him, the suspension will give time for a thorough examination of his behavior while in office.

A statement from the secretary of the Federation’s office confirmed his suspension.

Bawa was instructed to transfer over control of his office’s operations right once to Mohammed Umar Abba, Director of Operations in the Commission, who will manage the office’s operations until the investigation is over.

Mr. Abdulkarim Chukkol has taken over as acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission following Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa’s suspension as executive chairman of the commission by the federal government on Tuesday, June 14, 2023.
