Early life

Soludo was born on July 28, 1960, and hails from Isuofia in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State where he was raised.

The professor is married to Mrs Nonye Soludo and they have been blessed with six children. Before his emergence as governor, Soludo’s private life was kept away from the media.

Education

Soludo attended Uga Boys High School in his village and he was the senior school prefect during his time.

He proceeded to the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) in Enugu State, where he got first-class honours in economics in 1984, his Master’s in 1987 and Doctorate in 1989 awarding him a professor at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and a visiting professor at Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA

Career

He has worked as a consultant for many international organisations, including The World Bank, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and the United Nations Development Programme.

Soludo is a core professional in the business of macroeconomics.

Soludo has been a visiting scholar at the International Monetary Fund, the University of Cambridge, the Brookings Institution, the University of Warwick, and the University of Oxford as well as a visiting professor at Swarthmore College (USA).

Chukwuma has been trained and involved in research, teaching, and auditing in multi-country macro-econometric modelling, techniques of computable general equilibrium modelling, survey methodology, and panel data econometrics, among others.

He studied and taught these courses at many universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, and Warwick. Soludo has co-authored, co-edited, and authored a number of books on this subject matter.

Soludo joined the federal government in 2003 and served as chief economic adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He was the Chief Executive of the National Planning Commission of Nigeria and appointed CBN Chairman in 2004.

During his tenure as CBN chairman, he helped to restructure the banking sector in diverse ways and pioneered the establishment of the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), a continental, private-sector-driven, investment bank, according to a statement on the CBN official page.

Political history

He joined politics on the people’s Democratic party ( PDP) platform and declared intentions for the gubernatorial seat of Anambra state in 2009 but lost during the polls.

He resigned from the people’s Democratic party on July, 2013 and joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance ahead of the governorship election of the state in November, 2013.

On 16 September 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Soludo as a member of a newly formed 8-member Economic Advisory Council which would report directly to the President.

In February 2021, Soludo officially declared his intention to run for the position of Governor of Anambra State under the banner of APGA.

On 9 November 2021, Soludo was announced winner of the 2021 gubernatorial election of Anambra state by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He was issued a certificate of return on 13 November 2021 and was sworn in as the fifth Governor of Anambra state on March, 2022.
