The price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as fuel varies across the 54 countries in Africa.
Each country experiences an increase or decrease in the purchase of this commodity owing to significant fiscal challenges such as inflation in food and energy which has crippled many economies.
The impact of this changes is felt in the cost of transportation, powering of generators etc.
Industries which rely solely on transportation, be it logistics, manufacturing, or agriculture, are equally affected, facing shrinking profit margins, potential job losses, gains or price hikes for their products and services.
In Africa’s most populous country Nigeria, fuel scarcity has been felt for over a period of time.
This scarcity is attributed to the importation of substandard petroleum products from other countries and this has led to a hike in the price of fuel in the country.
Despite this recent price surge in Nigeria, the country still purchase the commodity at a price that is minimal as compared to some countries whose prices are high.
