The Department of State Services (DSS) is a paramilitary agency in Nigeria saddled with the responsibility of  ensuring the security of the citizens and addressing domestic security concerns.

It was incepted in 1986 and is responsible for ensuring national security, gathering intelligence, and protecting the Federal Republic.

The DSS is also known as the State Security Services (SSS), is a security agency in Nigeria.

DSS Ranks

Ranks of DSS in Nigeria follows a  strict hierarchical structure, which involves four stages that one must pass through to reach the top, they include, non-officers, junior officers, senior officers, and high-ranking officers.

The ranks of the DSS are listed below;

Junior Officers;

Senior Officers;

DSS Salary in 2024

The Nigerian DSS salary structure follows the Consolidated Para-Military Salary Structure (CONPASS), a unified internal multi-agency salary scale for paramilitary units in Nigeria.

The salary structure for each official will vary depending on academic and field qualifications, rank, experience, and years of service.

Following the kind of  job that the DSS officials are involved, they are paid higher salary as against other paramilitary bodies.

Below are the classification of the range of salary received by the DSS officials according to their ranks.

High-ranking officers: N750,000-N1.5 million

Senior officers: N300,000-N550,000

Junior officers: N120,000-N350,000

Non-officers: N30,000-N90,000

The staff of the Nigerian Department of State Services (DSS) are also placed on certain benefits and allowances alongside their monthly pay.
