Gov Obaseki: Phillip Shaibu plotted a coup against me, desperate to be Governor (video)
In this video, Governor Godwin Obaseki describes the altercation with his deputy Phillip Shaibu and accuses the latter of attempting to overthrow him.
Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State, has stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not a party for internally displaced people in response to the conflict between Obaseki and deputy Shaibu.
He continued to criticize the deputy governor’s actions and exhorted him to settle their differences so that the state could experience peace.
There have been rumblings that the APC National Working Committee is ready to welcome Shaibu to the party next week notwithstanding Oshiomhole’s foreclosure. This is happening at a time when the acting deputy governor has vehemently rejected any such plans.
Obaseki responded to the judicial proceedings started by Shaibu at a press conference in Benin by saying the following:
“He has become very desperate to become Governor and doesn’t mind carrying out a coup against me”

Sharing the reason for the fallout during a meeting with PDP members, Obaseki recalled how the Shaibu refused attending a meeting for selection of Commissioners, but instead travelled to Abuja.“The Edo state Governor said upon his return to the state and after the state house of assembly was inducted, Shaibu allegedly called APC chieftains, telling them that he has five PDP members that are loyal to him and who will work with APC state lawmakers to produce a speaker.
“Obaseki who described this as a coup, said he convened a meeting with PDP members at his private apartment after being told of Shaibu’s alleged dealings.
“He also disclosed that Shaibu tried barging into the meeting which wasn’t held at the state house, but was turned back because he now knows they don’t have a common interest”.
Shaibu was characterized by Obaseki as a man in extreme need who would do everything to become governor.
Additionally, he charged him with lying in the document submitted to the court in an effort to halt any impeachment proceedings against his residence.
