Igbo Day: Ohanaeze Ndigbo calls for prayers for restoration of peace in South-East

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has encouraged Ndigbos to pray for God’s intervention in restoring peace and security in Southeast Nigeria.

Ohanaeze made the call while denouncing the recent spate of killings and bloodbaths in Imo State and elsewhere in the region.

Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, made the demand ahead of this year’s Igbo Day celebration.

Isiguzoro urged “Ndigbo to pray for God’s intervention to restore peace and security across the country, especially in the southeast and in Imo State in particular.”

The Igbo people of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, assembled at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church on September 23, 2023, for a Thanksgiving Service and Prayer Session.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, an Igbo socio-cultural organization, arranged the event as part of the preparations for the Grand Finale of the Igbo Day celebration, which was slated to take place on September 29th at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt.

A huge number of Igbo people attended the service, including Ohanaeze Ndigbo representatives led by Professor Thomas Amadi Ellah and Prince Richard Ozobu, chairman of the Elders Forum.

Professor Ellah expressed his excitement in his introductory remarks, saying that despite the insecurity issues and other difficulties “facing the Igbo people,” they had “every reason to be thankful to Chukwu Okike Abiama (Almighty God) for His faithfulness and mercy.”

He stated that Ndigbo had been saved and survived in the seven Igbo-speaking states, including Rivers and Anioma in Delta State, and that this was reason for rejoicing.
