Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened his War Cabinet late Saturday as Iran launched dozens of drones toward Israel following last week’s attack on the Iranian Consulate in Syria.
Participants will discuss the latest developments regarding Iran’s military attack on Israel, Israeli public broadcaster, KAN, reported.
The Israeli army confirmed early Saturday that Tehran launched dozens of drones toward Israel, with the drones expected to take between seven to nine hours to reach Israel.
Meanwhile, the Israeli security Cabinet has delegated Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Minister Benny Gantz to make decisions about a response in the aftermath of an Iranian attack.
The Israeli broadcasting authority did not disclose the nature of decisions made by the Cabinet, which held a meeting in a fortified area in the Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv.
Netanyahu chaired a meeting of the War Cabinet before the Cabinet meeting, which included a larger number of ministers.
“There will be an unprecedented response,” the Maariv newspaper quoted an unnamed official.
Israeli officials in recent days have warned that if Iran attacks Israel from its territory, the response will be inside Iran.
The Israeli broadcasting authority said Israel requested an urgent Security Council meeting to condemn Iran and declare the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a “terrorist” organization.
At least seven members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed, including two top generals, in a missile attack on the Iranian Consulate in Damascus, Syria, on April 1.
Tehran has blamed Israel for the attack. (Pieced together from siferent Anadolu Agency reports)
