JUST IN: Appeal Court upholds Idris’s election as Kebbi Gov

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed Nasir Idris’s March 18 election as the legitimately elected governor of Kebbi State.

The Court, in a decision issued on Friday evening, rejected the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its governorship candidate, General Aminu Bande, for lack of merit.

The Appellate Court resolved all five questions submitted for resolution in favor of the governor and against the PDP in a unanimous judgment given by Justice Ndukwe Anyanwu.

Justice Anyanwu ruled that the allegations of forgery of a testimonial leveled against the State’s Deputy Governor, Abubakar Umar Tafida, had not been substantiated as required by law.

She also ruled that the claims of noncompliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act in the election’s conduct could not stand since the appellants failed to show how the allegations had a significant impact on the election.

Justice Anyanwu later upheld the decision of the Kebbi State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which had previously dismissed the PDP’s challenge and confirmed the governor’s election.
