Just In: ECOWAS delegation meet deposed Niger President Mohamed Bazoum

A source close to the West African bloc told AFP that a delegation from ECOWAS that was in Niger to speak with the coup leaders also had a meeting with deposed President Mohamed Bazoum on Saturday.
The source further stated that Bazoum was “in good spirits”. The meeting did really take place, according to a journalist from the Niger news agency stationed at the presidential palace.
Despite the fact that his electricity was still off.
The meeting did indeed take place, according to a journalist from the Niger news agency who was on-site at the presidential palace on Saturday afternoon.
In an effort to prevent a military conflict, the group traveled to Niger on Saturday for discussions with the senior army leaders who took control of the country in a coup last month.
According to the source, who did not specify whether coup leader General Abdourahamane Tiani was there, the ECOWAS representatives met with some of the senior commanders who usurped power under the leadership of former Nigerian president Abdulsalami Abubakar.
A previous ECOWAS mission led by Abubakar had attempted to meet him earlier this month but had been unsuccessful.
According to a source close to the most recent delegation, it would see Bazoum and give “a message of firmness” to the army officers.
ECOWAS defense officials convened last week in Accra, Ghana, to finalize plans for a future military action to retake Bazoum if continuing talks with the coup leaders fall down.
