LP lawmakers reject Abure, set to receive N160M SUVs from FG

Lawmakers from the Labour Party in the National Assembly have chosen to defy the party’s national chairman, Julius Abure, who had objected to the idea of buying sport utility vehicles (SUVs) for federal parliamentarians for N160 million each.

In her statement, Abure called the proposal insulting and encouraged Labour Party lawmakers to reject the use of the opulent cars.

Some Labour Party MPs have indicated their determination to accept the official automobiles in response to the party chairman’s suggestion, highlighting the significance of these vehicles in performing their legislative duties.

They stated that these tools are necessary for carrying out supervisory tasks.

The vehicles are essential office supplies for parliamentarians, according to Ngozi Okolie, a Labour Party lawmaker who represents Delta Aniocha North and South.

She emphasized that the use of official vehicles is necessary because state-level politicians enjoy more perks than federal lawmakers.

Igbo Etiti and Uzo-Uwani seats in Enugu State’s Stainless Nwodo, a lawmaker for the Labour Party, applauded President Bola Tinubu for granting the official vehicles.

The SUVs, according to Nwodo, will be utilized to assist residents and facilitate visits to constituents in difficult terrain.

Neda Imasuen, the senatorial district representative for Edo South, on the other hand, said he would wait for the vehicles to arrive before making a judgment.
