Meet Bala Audu, new NMA President
In this post, Platinum Times Nigeria will work you through all you should know about Prof. Bala Audu, the newly elected President of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA).
Bala Audu is a Nigerian scholar and medical expert who has been elected as the new President of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA).
The election took place during the annual delegates meeting held in Calabar, Cross River state.
Audu is lauded for his contributions to the field of medicine, having trained many young obstetric doctors and conducted numerous research works on cancer prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment.
Here’s what to know about the newly elected NMA President;
Prior to his new role, Audu served as the Provost of the College of Medical Sciences at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, in 2017 and later as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, in Bauchi state.
He obtained a degree in Medicine from the University of Maiduguri in 1988 and a Master’s degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the University of London in 1994.
He had his basic education at St. Patricks Primary School, Kurra Falls Plateau State; Ja’afaru LEA Primary School, Zaria Kaduna State; Kufena College, Zaria, Kaduna State; and School of Basic Studies, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
He was Head of Department of obstetrics and gynecology in UMTH from 2004-2007 and Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Council (CMAC), UMTH.
He’s also a Fellow in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1997.
In 2008, he obtained a hospital administration and health services certificate from the National Institute of Public Health, Japan.
He is a specialist in gynecology oncology/infertility and heads COSON & TAGCREC as founding President.
Prof. Audu has conducted numerous research works on cancer prevention /early diagnosis and treatment as well as endometrial and ovarian disorders including infertility and prevention of maternal mortality in Nigeria.
He oversees a multi-million dollar CZI research grant with University of Miami on African Ancestry Single-Cell Network.
He has published over 100 journals in addition to presentations at scientific conferences.
Prof. Audu holds membership in professional associations such as Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Society of Gynecologists and Obstetricians in Nigeria (SOGON), Gynecology Oncology Society of Nigeria (GOSON), International Gynecological Cancer Society (ICGS), European Society of Gynecological Oncology (ESGO), European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and International Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy (ISSHP).
