Emomotimi John Agama is a finance expert who has been appointed as the Director General of the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) by President Bola Tinubu.

Prior to his new role, he served as a Managing Director at the Nigerian Capital Market Institute (NCMI) a subsidiary of the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Head Registration, Exchanges and Market Infrastructure and Innovation Department in the commission.

He steps into this new role with a vast knowledge on accounting, Investment Analysis and Risk management coupled with his diverse years of skillful experience in the finance sector.

Emomotimi John Agama is a Nigerian and he is married with children.

He obtained several academic qualifications from renowned institutions including, a bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology Port-Harcourt, two Master’s degrees in Banking and Finance and Economics from the University of Benin, Benin City Nigeria.

He also holds a Doctorate in Economics from the Nile University of Nigeria with a dissertation on the Impact of cryptocurrency operations on Macroeconomic Variables in Nigeria.

He further obtained a certificate in Capital Market from The George Washington University, Washington DC after which he took a core analyst program on International Housing Finance at the Wharton Business School USA, New York Institute of Finance.

He also acquired the Advanced Risk Management Certificate from the University College, London and PRMIA, he is a graduate of Strategic Enterprise Analysis and PRINCE 2 Project Management of the SEEC, York University Toronto Canada.

Before he joined the SEC, he served at the the University of Benin and Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.

He was previously the Head of Registration, Exchanges and Market Infrastructure and Innovation Department, Special Assistant to the Executive Commissioner Operations and Head, Public Offerings at the Securities and Exchange Commission.

He is a high profile member of the Rules Committee and a member of the SEC committee on the adoption of IFRS in Nigeria and the pioneer head for the introduction of Derivatives trading in the Nigerian Capital Market.

He is the regional executive member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountant (CIMA),UK and Chairman Board of Trustees for Purity Rose Orphanage Home.

He is an Associate Member Chartered Institute of Management Accountant UK, A Chartered Global Management Accountant, Chartered Member of LIFA USA, Member Chartered Securities and Investment Institute, London, Associate Member Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), a Senior Fellow of the Risk Managers Association of Nigeria (RIMAN).

He is a Fellow of the IFC-Milken Institute Capital Markets Program, a finance tutor and member of the Chartered Institute of Stock Brokers and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

He is the Vice chairman of the Regulatory Oversight Committee (ROC) of the Global Legal Entity Identifier of SEC.

He has served as the Project Manager for the Nigerian Capital Market Master Plan (2015-2025).
