Biography

Natty Bruce is of the Nigerian Igbo tribe. He hails from Abia State,Nigeria and was born on 12th, 1966 as the second child among four children.

He had a degree in theatre arts from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka after completing his Secondary education at Government College, Umuahia.

Career

Owing to his love for martial arts right from childhood, he served in the Nigerian army for a couple of years before venturing into entertainment.

Natty Bruce joined the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood in the 1990s featuring in action movies .

He worked alongside renowned directors like Chico Ejiro, Teco Benson amongst others.

He featured in various action scenes and stunt creation. He founded a stunt academy to his name to train youngsters in martial arts.

Some of the movies he has featured and directed while he was alive includes; The Wolf, Black Master, King of Devils, Wrong Turn, Last Mission, The Last Bullet, The Last Stand, and The Last Hope. He was also inved in TV operas and series including Hush, the Johnson’s and Tinsel.

Associations

He was a member of various professional bodies including the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) and the Association of Movie Producers (AMP).

He was among the judges for the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) and the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

Awards

He was awarded Best Director at the Nollywood Movies Awards, 2012.

The Lifetime Achievement award at the Nollywood Week Paris Film Festival, 2019.

Personal Life

Natty Bruce was a devoted christian, he  married Ngozi Idigbogu, a lawyer and human rights activist and they both had three children.

He founded Natty Bruce Foundation, which focused on empowering youths and promoting peace and unity in Nigeria.

Death

Natty Bruce passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital ( LUTH) after battling with a kidney disease.

His death was herald On Tuesday morning by Ngerian journalist Shaibu Husseini on his verified Facebook page.

The news of Natty Bruce’s demise has left many netizens in shock and the Nollywood industry at large.
