Ndidi, Iheanacho, Musa top Nigeria players free agents list

Ahmed Musa, the captain of the Super Eagles, is at the top of the list of high-profile Nigerian players whose contracts will expire this summer.

The 31-year-old winger signed a two-year contract with Sivasspor in September 2022 after mutually terminating his contract with Fatih Karagumruk.

His current contract expires this summer, and conversations about extending it have yet to begin, according to Turkish media.

Musa, who was named to the Eagles roster for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, which begins in Ivory Coast in nine days, is Nigeria’s most capped player, having appeared in 108 games for the three-time African Champion since his debut in 2011.

Musa has one goal and four appearances (two in the Turkish Super Lig and two in cup tournaments) this season, totaling 237 minutes of action.

The future of defender Ola Aina at Nottingham Forest is also unknown, with the Tricky Trees yet to offer the defender a new contract extension.

Aina is in the final six months of his contract, and the club has yet to hold formal talks about an extension, despite rumors that a deal would be reached soon.

Aina, 27, has established himself at the club after joining from Torino on a one-year agreement with a one-year extension option.

He has made 14 appearances, scoring one goal and assisting on another.

The futures of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi at Leicester City are uncertain, with the club yet to initiate contract negotiations with the duo.

Both players are enjoying a new lease of life in the English Championship under manager Enzo Maresca, but have yet to sign a new contract with the club and may sign a pre-contract agreement to join another team on a free transfer this summer.

Both players are in the final six months of their contracts with the club.

Ndidi, who has thrived in his new No.8 role at Leicester, has four goals and six assists in 24 games this season, while Iheanacho has six goals and two assists in 21 games.

They’ve also been linked with a number of Premier League clubs.

Shehu Abdullahi and Oghenekaro Etebo, who have been without a club since 2023, are also available for free.

Etebo last played for Greek team Aris Salonica in 2023 and was released after his contract expired last summer, similar to Abdulahi, whose contract with Levski Sofia was not renewed at the end of last season.
