Early Life:

Nyesom Wike was born on the 13th of December, 1963 to Rev And Mrs Nlemanya Wike of Rumueprikom, Obio- Akpor of Rivers State.

Education

He attended Government Secondary School,Eneka in Obio-akpor, Rivers State and obtained his Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) he then proceeded to the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUT) where he had a Bachelor’s degree in Law. To expand his knowledge,he further enrolled in Law School in 1997 and had a Master’s degree in Political and Administrative Studies.

Family:

Nyesom Wike Christian, married to Mrs Eberechi Nyesom Wike and the marriage is blessed with three kids, two boys and a girl.

Career

Being a graduate of law, Wike worked with a private law firm briefly before venturing into politics.

Political Career

In 1999,Wike entered Politics under the umbrella of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he was appointed Executive Chairman of Obio- Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State until 2007 when he was appointed as the chief of staff to the ex- governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi.

In July 2011, he was appointed as the Minister of State for Education by President Goodluck Jonathan and was promoted to Federal Minister of Education in September 2013.

In 2014, he resigned from his position as Federal Minister for Education and decided to run as governor of Rivers State in the 2015 gubernatorial elections under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He won the party’s primary and was declared the flag bearer of the party along side his running mate, Ipalibo Banigo.

In 2015, Wike was declared winner of the Rivers State gubernatorial elections but his victory was nullified by the court due to alligations of electoral fraud by his opponent, Dakuku Peterside of the All Progressive Congress ( APC) and the court ordered a re-run of the elections within 90days.

In 2016, Wike’s election was upheld as governor of Rivers State and in 2018,he picked another form for a second tenure as governor.

In 2019, he emerged victorious and began his secondary tenure as governor of Rivers State till 2023.

During his second tenure as governor of Rivers State, he declared free secondary education and registration of citizens of Rivers State taking part in Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Examination. He also completed many flyovers in the state.
