Obi Asika was born on 3rd October, 1968 into an Igbo family from Anambra State, Nigeria.
He had his elementary education at Ekulu Primary School, Enugu between 1974 and 1977 before leaving the shores of Nigeria to the United Kingdom where he attended Ashdown House, East Sussex between 1977 and 1982.
He got admitted into the Eton College and the University of Warwick, from which he received an LLB Hons in 1990.
Career
Asika was a research assistant at the World Trade Centre of Nigeria between 1986 and 1987.
He has ventured into oil and gas, real property, information technology, agriculture, sports, media & entertainment.
Between 1987 and 1990, Asika organized successful concerts, charity and entertainment events at university campuses around the UK.
He also hosted a weekly radio show at the University of Warwick. He was equally DJ and promoter of over 200 events at universities and clubs in London.
In 1991, he established Storm Productions, a Nigerian entertainment company whose record label arm is notable for nurturing young Nigerian musical talent, including Naeto C, Ikechukwu, Sasha P, Tosin Martins, Banky W.
He has been an Executive Producer for global events, major global tv franchises and festivals including, Fifa U20 World Cup 1999, CAF Nations Cup 2000, Big Brother Nigeria 2006, Dragons Den Nigeria, 2007, The Apprentice Africa 2008, Naija Sings 2009-2012, Calabar Festival 2008 & Calabar Rocks Tv Series 2008, Soccerex West Africa, SMWLagos since 2012.
He was also a judge at the Just concluded season of the Nigerian Idol Season 8.
Asika is also the founder of Dragon Africa, a media company which produces Social Media Week Lagos and also the West African partner and co-founder of AMPN West Africa, a production company operating in Lagos, Nairobi and South Africa with TV formats including The Voice, And The Winner Is, and I love My Country.
He is the National Coordinator of the Technical Working Group for the Creative Industries, Tourism, Culture and Hospitality sectors for the 2020-2030 Media and Long term National Development plan for the Nigeria 2050 Agenda.
In 2014, Asika was appointed to the African Advisory Committee of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African Art in Washington DC and in 2024, President Bola Tinubu appointed him Director-General, National Council for Arts and Culture, NCAC.

Obi Asika is a Christian who is married and has a family. His farher, Anthony Ukpabi Asika, was a military officer during the Nigerian civil war.
In 2017, he was awarded the Industry Professional of the year during the Beatz Awards.
