Mustapha Akinwunmi is an experienced economist who is among the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

He has several years of experience in using data mining to profer solutions to financial and economic problems.

Mustapha Akinwunmi has a Ph.D. in Economics from Fordham University, New York, USA, building on his earlier Master’s degree (MA) in Economics from the same institution.

He also holds an MS in Computer Science and a BSc in General Studies with a concentration in Electrical Engineering, both from the New York Institute of Technology.

He served as a Principal Consultant to the CBN assisting the Deputy Governor of Economic Policy in identifying, formulating, and implementing new fiscal and monetary policies.

He is a board member of Allied Foods (Franchisee of Burger King in Nigeria), Wow Creamery (Subsidiary of Ice berry), Moody’s Group / GCR Credit Rating and member of Macrothink Institute serving in different non-executive positions.

He is an Associate Professor at the American University of Nigeria, Yola, within the School of Business and Entrepreneurship, he concurrently holds the position of Senior Research Associate at the Centre for International Policy Studies, Fordham University, Bronx, NYC, since 2017.

He is a native of the Yoruba tribe in Nigeria and is married with children.

He was appointed as a member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria in February, 2024.
