Security officer, one other killed as robbers raid banks in Kogi
Gunmen have attacked two commercial banks in Anyigba, Dekina Local Government Area, Kogi State, killing one security officer and one civilian in the process.
According to a video that has gone popular on social media, the incident occurred at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Eyewitnesses reported occasional gunfire during the operation.
When the thieves arrived in town, they first attacked the police station on the Anyigba-Idah road, killing a police officer known only as Idoko.
According to the source, the killed police officer had recently been transferred to the station and was from Iyale, a nearby town in the same local government region.
According to the source, the attack also murdered a man identified as Alagama, who sells minor products at the Anyigba roundabout, just a few metres from the location of the tragedy. He was said to have died from a stray bullet during the operation.
According to the eyewitness, the gunmen followed the bullion truck to their Anyigba offices, where they disabled security before stealing all of the cash.
Another gang, apparently belonging to the hoodlums, stormed into the town’s First Bank and grabbed an undetermined amount of cash.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kogi State Police Command, SP William Aya, is yet to confirm the news.
