UCL: Why we lost to Newcastle – Luis Enrique speaks on 4-1 defeat

Luis Enrique, manager of Paris Saint-Germain, has revealed why his team was thrashed 4-1 by Newcastle United in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash.

Enrique, who believes his team ‘didn’t deserve’ to lose by such a large margin against Newcastle United in the Champions League, believes Newcastle were effective in the last third of the game and PSG made several errors.

Newcastle defeated the French Ligue 1 champions at St. James’ Park thanks to goals from Miguel Almiron, Dan Burn, Sean Longstaff, and Fabian Schar.

Enrique also praised Newcastle on the outcome of the game after the game.

According to Canal+, the Spaniard said at his post-match press conference:

“I sincerely think the result is a bit unfair, but not totally.

“Congratulations to Newcastle, they played very good football. They were effective in the last part of the pitch and we made some mistakes, it is hard to accept that. If you make mistakes you pay for that.

“Their press worked. We tried to put in front of their goal as many chances as possible but we weren’t so effective in the last part of the pitch.

“But the scoreline is excessive. The result is so big for them. But I think we didn’t deserve that result.”
