Early life
Namadi was born on 7 April 1963 in Kafin Hausa LGA of Jigawa State, Nigeria.
Education
He attended Kafin Hausa Central Primary School from where he proceeded to Mallam Madori Teachers College where he obtained his Teachers Grade II Certificate in 1982.
In 1984, he sat for an A Level Certificate examination which launched him into Bayero University, Kano where he graduated with a BSc in Accounting in 1987 thereafter a master’s in Business administration from the same University.
He is a member of some professional bodies such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Nigerian Institute of Management, and Chartered Institute of Taxation.
Career
Between 1988 and 1994, Namadi served as an Audit Assistant at Egwu Oga & Co. in Benue state.
He also worked with Abdu Abdurrahim & Co. Chartered Accountants, based in Kano offering Audit Management and Consultancy Services.
He was a principal officer at the National Board for Community Banks before joining Kaduna Textiles limited.
Umar Namadi later joined the Dangote Group of Companies serving as an Assistant General Manager of Finance and a Financial Controller in both the Dangote Sugar Refinery and Dangote Group.
After several years of service in the private sector, Umar moved to the public sphere where he worked with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) as a General Manager of Finance & Accounts and General Manager of Contribution Management Department from 2006 to 2013.
He is also a business expert holding positions as Managing Partner Namadi, Umar & Co. Chartered Accountants; Chairman/CEO Danmodi Food Processing Limited (Rice Millers); and Chairman/CEO Danmodi Farms
Political history
Between 2015 and 2019, he was Commissioner of Finance and Economic Planning in Jigawa State.
In 2019 he became Deputy Governor of Jigawa State and in 2023, he succeeded Badaru Abubakkar as Governor of the state on the All Progressive Congress (APC) platform.
