Herbert Wigwe, the CEO of Access Holdings Plc, perished in a helicopter crash in California, United States of America, on Friday.

1. Herbert Wigwe died at age 58. He was born August 15, 1966.
2. He earned a degree in accounting from the University of Nigeria in Nsukka, Enugu.
3. He also earned an MA in Banking and Finance from the University College of North Wales (now Bangor) and an MSc in Financial Economics from the University of London.

4. Wigwe began his work as a management consultant with Coopers & Lybrand in Lagos before becoming a chartered accountant.
5. Following a period at Capital Bank, he joined Guaranty Trust Bank, where he worked in corporate and institutional banking for nearly a decade, eventually advancing to the position of executive director in institutional banking.
6. Wigwe also served as Chairman of Access Bank Ghana Limited, Access Investment & Securities Limited, Central Securities and Clearing System (CSCS), and the current Chairman of Access Bank (UK) Limited until his death.
7. In 2016, the Boys’ Brigade (BB) appointed Herbert Wigwe as State Patron for the Lagos State Council in appreciation of “his exemplary role in society and contributions to youth development”.
8. In October 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari bestowed upon him the Nigerian national title of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).
