Xavi makes dramatic u-turn, stays as Barcelona coach next season
Reversing his plan to quit in the summer, Xavi Hernández has agreed to stay as Barcelona’s coach until the end of his contract in 2025, a source has confirmed to ESPN.
After a run of poor performances, Xavi, 44, said in January that he would leave his position at the end of the season. He claimed that the position had also negatively impacted his mental health.
But after meeting with Joan Laporta, the president, on Wednesday, the former Spain international has made the decision to honor his contract with the Catalan team.
After winning the league title for Barça for the first time in four years in his first season as coach in 2021, Xavi signed a contract extension with an option for an extra year in September of last year, extending his stay at the club until 2025.
More to come…
