Nollywood veteran actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu has been declared dead at the age of 62 after a prolonged ailment.

He was famous for featuring in different comic roles in most of his movies. His death is indeed a great loss to the Nigerian movie industy and the nation at large.

Here are 8 facts you should know about the fallen movie Icon.

  1. Mr. Ibu was born on 17th October 1961 and died on 2nd March, 2024 at Evercare Hospital.
  2. He was a native of Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
  3. He attended the College of Education, Yola, but pulled out due to financial difficulties but later enrolled in the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu.
  4. Before he ventured into acting, he took on different menial jobs in order to make ends meet.
  5. He became a popular figure in the Nigerian movie Industry and until his death, he has appeared in over 200 movies portraying comic characters. Some of which are Mr. Ibu (2004), Mr. Ibu 2 (2005), Mr. Ibu and His Son, Coffin Producers, Husband Suppliers, International Players, Mr.Ibu in London (2005), Police Recruit (2003), 9 Wives (2005), Ibu in Prison (2006) and Keziah (2007).
  6. He was a Christian and was married with children.
  7. He also ventured into music for a short period of time when he released the songs, This girl and Do you know.
  8. He suffered a severe ailment that led to the amputation of his leg and eventually his death.
