Babajide Sanwo-Olu was born on 25th June, 1965 in Lagos State, Nigeria.

Education

After his elementary education, Sanwo-Olu started his secondary education at Government Demonstration School, Gbaja, Surulere and then moved to Ijebu-Ife Grammar school in Ogun State where he completed his secondary education.

He holds a degree in Surveying and an MBA from the University of Lagos.

He also attended the John F. Kennedy School of Government, the London Business School and the Lagos Business School.

Career

From 1994 to 1997, Sanwo-Olu worked as a treasurer at former Lead Merchant Bank before he headed the foreign money unit of the United Bank for Africa.

He was also a manager at the First Inland Bank, Plc now First City Monument Bank.

He chaired the Baywatch Group Limited and First Class Group Limited.

In 2003, he was made special adviser on Corporate Matters to Femi Pedro, a former deputy governor of Lagos State.

In 2007, he was appointed Commissioner of Commerce and Industry by Giver Nola Tinubu after serving as acting Commissioner of Economic Planning and Budget.

He was subsequently appointed Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions by Governor Babatunde Fashola and then the Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC) by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in 2016.

He is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) and fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Training and Development (NITAD).

Politics

He was elected governor under the platform of the All Progressives Congress after contesting the APC gubernatorial primaries against incumbent governor Akinwunmi Ambode in October 2018.

He was reelected governor under the umbrella of All Progressives Congress (APC) in March 2023.

Sanwo-Olu is from a Christian home and is married to Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu and they both have children.
