Suspended Minister, Edu to face EFCC Tuesday

Betta Edu, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has been directed to report to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, on Tuesday, January 9.

President Bola Tinubu banned Edu on Monday over an alleged N585m fraud.

According to a top source in the anti-graft commission, the embattled minister was invited by the agency in response to Tinubu’s directive for a complete inquiry of her activities in the ministry.

A senior EFCC officer confirmed the development in a telephone call with our correspondent on Monday, saying, “Betta Edu has been mandated to report to the commission (EFCC) tomorrow.”

According to Platinum Times, Edu’s predecessor, Sadiya Farouq, is still being questioned by EFCC investigators as of 6.40 p.m. on Monday, amid claims that she laundered N37.1 billion while serving as a minister in former President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.
