Education

He began his academic journey at Baptist Primary School, Ikogosi-Ekiti before attending Awo Community High School and then C.A.C Grammar School in Efon-Alaaye, Ekiti State, and then the Federal School of Art and Science in Ondo State and the District Commercial Secondary School in Aramoko, Ekiti State between 1979 to 1983.

He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) degree in Political Science from the present Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti in 1989 and a Master’s in Political science from the University of Ibadan, Oyo State in 1992.

Early Life

Oyebanji is of the Yoruba descent, born on December 21st, 1967 in Ikogosi, Ekiti State, Nigeria.

Career

Oyebanji started his professional career as a Lecturer at the Department of Political Science, University of Ado Ekiti, where he worked for four years and later proceeded to work as Manager, Treasury, and Financial Services at the defunct Omega Bank Plc (now Heritage Bank) till May 1999.

Oyebanji is also involved in the Agribusiness and is the chairman of Con Dois Farms Ltd.

In 1994, Oyebanji was appointed the Secretary of the committee set up for the creation of Ekiti State, headed by Baba Deji Falegan and a one Secretary of the Ekiti State Development Fund.

In the onset of Nigeria’s democracy, Oyebanji was among the advisers to Otunba Niyi Adebayo, the state’s first democratically elected governor.

Oyebanji rose to the position of the Chief of Staff to the Governor in 2003.

In 2009, he was appointed as the chairman of the governing board, Citizenship and Leadership Training centre under the federal ministry of youth and sports development between June 2009 and December 2010.

In 2010, Oyebanji was appointed the commissioner for integration and inter-governmental affairs and later Ekiti’s office of transformation strategy and delivery (OTSD) a year later by the administration of Kayode Fayemi.

In 2018, Oyebanji was named secretary to the state government (SSG) by Kayode Fayemi, after being reelected for a second term as Governor of Ekiti State.

Politics

In 2021, Oyebanji resigned his position as the Secretary to the State Government to pursue his governorship ambition in the All Progressives Congress platform.

On 8 December 2021, Oyebanji declared his intention to contest the Ekiti State Gubernatorial Election in 2022.

He won in the party’s primaries and was declared the party’s flagbearer for the 2022 gubernatorial race.

On 18 June 2022, Oyebanji was elected governor on the APC platform. He was officially Sworn in as Governor of Ekiti State on October 16, 2022.

Personal life

Oyebanji is married to Prof. (Mrs) Oyebanji who is an associate professor at the University of Ibadan and also a princess in Ado Ekiti.
