Amid fuel price hike, Syrian Government doubles salaries of workers

According to local media, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad authorized a 100% pay hike as the government drastically increased fuel costs.
The pay raise is the ninth since the start of the Syrian war in 2011, and it affects state employees, retirees, and military personnel.
Since then, there has been a severe economic crisis in the nation.
Prior to the decision, civil officials’ monthly salaries ranged from approximately 10 to 25 dollars depending on the street value of the Syrian pound.
Tuesday saw price increases from the Syrian Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection of roughly 180% for transportation and bakery diesel fuel and about 1650% for regular octane gasoline.
Numerous bus drivers skipped work on Wednesday as a result of the increase in fuel prices, resulting in congestion on the streets.
The price increase also caused a disturbance in food costs, which increased by 30% to 100%.
