Chopper crash: Who is Abimbola Ogunbanjo

Abimbola Ogunbanjo was involved in the helicopter disaster that killed Herbert Wigwe, the group Managing Director of Access Bank Corporation, and other members of his family who were traveling in California.

It is thought that six people were on board, including Herbert’s wife and Bimbo Ogunbanjo, a friend and former President of the Stock Exchange.

The facts of the crash, including its exact location and timing, are still unknown.

Who Is Abimbola Ogunbanjo?

Early life and education: Bamofin Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former group chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), the non-operating holding company formed by the demutualization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in 2021-2022, was born in Nigeria. He holds a law degree from the University of Lagos and a Master of Laws degree from the London School of Economics.

Career:

Ogunbanjo started his work as a credit analyst with Chase Manhattan Bank (Nigeria) Limited. In 1990, he became the managing partner of the prominent law firm Chris Ogunbanjo LP. He has substantial experience in commercial law, with a concentration on financial markets, shipping, and mergers & acquisitions.

From 2017 to 2021, he served as President of the NSE’s National Council. He served on the boards of several non-profits and international corporations, including Beta Glass Plc and the University of Buckingham Centre for Extractive Studies Advisory Board.

Leadership Roles:

Ogunbanjo held various leadership positions in Nigeria’s economic community. He served as President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange’s National Council (NSE) from 2017 to 2021.

In 2021, he was appointed Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), the non-operating holding entity formed by the NSE’s demutualisation. He sat on the boards of various international firms and non-profit organizations.
