EFCC Act will be reviewed by Senate – Akpabio

The Senate has promised to revisit the Act creating the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, revealed this while stressing that the EFCC was more of a prosecuting agency than a prosecuting agency.

On the Senate floor on Wednesday, Akpabio revealed this during the confirmation of Olu Olukayode and Mohammed Hamajoda as Chairman and Secretary of the EFCC, respectively.

Akpabio described his trauma, saying he was targeted by political opponents in the run-up to the 2023 national elections.

He claimed that a frivolous petition was filed against him, and that he responded by stating that he would not react to frivolous petitions, but the former EFCC Chairman released his private letter “with the stamp of the EFCC to an online news platform, Sahara Reporters.”

Akpabio said:

“I don’t want to talk about the EFCC. We have the gavel in this chambers, and we will amend the (EFCC) Act to strengthen it and make the agency more effective.”
