A student loan is a lump sum of money that a student receives from the federal government, state government, or a private company, which they can use to foot their tution fees and other school expenses.
Following the establishment of Students Loan Act by President Tinubu in 2024, Nigerian students are advised to seize this opportunity to apply for the loan online which will kick-off on Friday 24th May, 2024.
This loan is an initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to provide easy access to fund Nigerian students in tertiary institutions across the country.
It is aimed relieving underprivileged Nigerian students of the burden of paying their school fees, thus providing easy and quality education to all.
For the first phase of this loan, only students in federal tertiary institutions will benefit from it but in subsequent times, other state owned universities, colleges, Polytechnics will also benefit.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to successfully apply for the loan;
- Check Your Eligibility status
– Ensure you are a student at a federal tertiary institution.
– Confirm that your institution has uploaded your data on the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) dashboard.
- Prepare Required Documents
– Admission letter from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
– National Identity Number (NIN).
– Bank Verification Number (BVN).
- Visit the NELFUND Website
– Go to the official portal: [www.nelf.gov.ng](http://www.nelf.gov.ng).
– Navigate to the loan application section.
- Complete the Application Form
– Fill out the application form with accurate and up-to-date information.
– Upload the required documents.
- Submit Your Application
– Double-check all entries for accuracy.
– Submit the completed application form online.
- Await Confirmation
– Monitor your email and the NELFUND portal for updates on your application status.
– Be prepared to provide additional information if requested.
