The following are Nigeria’s top ten wealthiest individuals and families, listed in no particular order:
1. The Dangote and Dantata Family
The Dantata Family, one of the richest families in Nigeria today, is said to have been founded by Alhassan Dantata, a trader who engaged in the sale of kola nuts, crushed nuts, and other goods. One of the richest people in West Africa at one point was Alhassan Dantata.
Members of his family include Aliko Dangote, his great-grandson and the richest black billionaire in the world according to Forbes, Ahmadu Dantata, his son and a politician, Alhaji Mudi Dantata, his son and a successful businessman, Alhaji Abdulkadir Dantata, his grandson, Aminu Dantata, his son and a politician, Mamuda Dantata, the founder of the West African Pilgrims Association and a currency trader, and Sanusi Dantata, his son.
The richest man in Nigeria and currently the richest person on the continent is Aliko Dangote, patriarch of one of Nigeria’s most well-known families.
The flour, sugar, salt, and cement are all owned by The Dangote Group, a division of Aliko Dangote’s business empire. Aliko Dangote is a businessman, but he is also a philanthropist who has given millions of dollars to numerous charities in Nigeria.
