Match Disruption: NPFL place N7m fine on Gombe United
The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, has sanctioned Gombe United Football Club on Monday for disruptive conduct by their fans during Sunday’s match against Kano Pillars.
During the game, the spectators allegedly threw stones inside the Pantami Township Stadium.
According to a press release released on Tuesday, Gombe United Football Club’s management will pay N7 million in addition to a one-match stadium ban for the club’s fans.
The club’s management was also chastised in the statement for failing to provide the required security for the visiting players.
The statement partly read,
“In the aftermath of fans’ unruly conduct in another Match Day 11 fixture, Gombe United were fined a total of ₦7 million and a one-match stadium ban to fans for breaches ranging from disruption of the match by fans throwing objects onto the field of play, to disruption of the live broadcast of the match and failure to provide adequate and effective security.”
